Previous Projects

I’ve been fortunate to have a successful track record of attention-grabbing (“viral”) projects, and my work has been featured on national and international media outlets like the New York Times, Forbes, Time.com and many others. For a more professional look at my previous work and background, you’re welcome to connect with me via Linkedin.

SOCIAL GOOD NOW

From 2015 to 2021, I wrote, produced, and animated a series of explainer videos simplifying social and political issues like Systemic Racism, Gun Violence, and Online Misinformation.

The videos were wildly successful, gathering over 250 million views (about 8 million views average per video) and getting shares from organizations like Moveon.org and NowThis, celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Snoop Dogg, George Takei, and LeBron James, and political figures like Senator Bernie Sanders and Former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich. Fun Fact: When Snoop Dogg shared my video, I proudly called my parents and said, “Mom, I think I’ve made it.”

Some of the videos have become part of Fortune 100 corporate training programs and university/high school curriculums.

You can watch my most popular videos here.

GUINNESS WORLD RECORD FOR LONGEST SPEECH MARATHON

In 2013, I attempted to break the Guinness World Record for Longest Speech Marathon. The event was livestreamed online and I spoke for 36 hours and 46 minutes, breaking the previous record of 34 hours. Unfortunately, while I was gathering the documentation for Guinness to confirm (video, witness testimony, etc), someone else broke the record! So as luck would have it, I was never officially confirmed as (briefly) holding the world record.

Nevertheless, it was an incredible experience achieving such a physical and mental feat, which is ultimately what’s most important to me. In the end the event got coverage on the Houston Chronicle and a local ABC News affiliate.

DRESS LIKE STEVE JOBS DAY

In 2011, when I was the Editor in Chief of iPhone Life magazine (2010-2014), I led the creation of a fake holiday to honor the late Steve Jobs who during that time was very sick and had recently stepped down as Apple CEO. The event idea was basically: go to work dressed like Steve Jobs, send us your best pictures, and we’ll feature the best ones in the magazine.

The event was an incredible success, with Time magazine picking it up about a week before the event, and featuring on the front page of their website. From there we got picked up by major news organizations across the US including CNN and many others.

The added publicity led to record newsstand and advertising sales for the magazine.

SMILE EVERY DAY PROJECT FOR IMGUR

PROJECT GOT OVER 3.5 MILLION VIEWS!

In 2016, in an effort to raise awareness about suicide prevention, I created a project called a Smile Every Day on the platform Imgur.com, where there was an unspoken rule of “no selfies” allowed as posts. I purposely broke the rule every day for 365 consecutive days, and tracked the results of the project. The end result was this “selfie inception” video.

The project was viewed over 3.5 million times, drawing tens of thousands of comments, and even drew the attention of the Imgur staff itself, who made a little tribute post to the project where the entire staff joined in for a group picture.

PUBLIC MEDITATION PROJECT

Back when I was in college (and newly introduced to Yoga and Meditation), I started the Public Meditation Project: an effort to organize decentralized meditation flashmobs around the world. The idea was simple: show up at public spaces, meditate in a very visible way, then leave.

This was my first “viral” project, with the project getting features in online media and print magazines, and spreading to countries like Japan, Brazil, and Germany. The project ran from 2007-2009.

HIGH FIVE AROUND THE WORLD

In 2014, I took a trip through 13 countries and made a video called “High Five Around the World.” The video got popular enough via Reddit and YouTube, that I got invited to give a TEDx presentation about my travels.

My TEDx presentation starts with the High Five Around the World video.
